Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hello, I am Meg Black-Smith and my medium is jewelry.
What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
There are many challenges from beginning to doing the art you have chosen, figuring out where to sell, pricing your work, putting yourself out there, building confidence, selling, etc. I believe you will get better at it, and you will never stop learning and advancing.
What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
I like to think that the people who purchase my work will, in the morning while getting ready for the day, put on a piece of my jewelry (earrings, pendants, bracelet) and think “this works and is perfect for the day”.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Both, I never have figured this out. Just when I think I am a night owl, I go to bed early and love that also.
What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
I think that experimentation just happens. Sometimes I certainly do not think I am experimenting, but when the piece is done, I say to myself “Wow, that worked and it’s cool and I need to do that again, but maybe like this.”
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
I do enjoy just trying not to do anything which can be quite a learning experience. Travel, being away from devices, taking time to read, cooking things I would like to try to do but never have the time. Take courses.
