Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hi! My name is Diane Tharp, and I have a passion for painting watercolors!
What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
The most challenging aspect of being an artist is giving myself permission to fail at a painting. There is something to learn from every failed painting and I’ve learned to just appreciate and enjoy the process whatever the outcome. Each painting is an adventure, successful or not!
What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
Since I love painting from nature, I hope viewers enjoy the beauty and miracles of nature. I appreciate the serenity, whimsey, and cycles of nature and love to convey that in my artwork.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Definitely a night owl. I’d rather be out enjoying the beautiful day and paint at night!
What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
Watercolors lend themselves to experimentation because they are so unpredictable. They have a mind of their own! I love this about watercolors.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
A new musical instrument, maybe the drums or the cello!
