Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hi! My name is Livia Radu Kerr, and I am a California-based artist working primarily in abstract stone mosaic and mixed-media painting. Using natural stone, oil, and acrylic, I create nature-inspired works that explore the beauty, movement, and emotional resonance of nature around us.
What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
One of the most challenging aspects of being an artist is finding enough time to create. Balancing the business side of an art career, exhibitions, marketing, and everyday responsibilities often leaves less time in the studio than I would like. The creative process is what fuels me, and I always wish there were more hours for it.
What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
I hope my artwork encourages viewers to slow down, pause, and connect with the beauty of nature that surrounds us. Through texture, color, and movement, I aim to create a sense of wonder, reflection, and appreciation for the elemental forces that shape both nature and our lives.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Definitely a night owl. I often find that my creativity flows best in the evening, when the day’s distractions have quieted down and I can fully immerse myself in the creative process.
What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
Experimentation is an essential part of my creative process. Whether I’m working with natural stone, texture, color, or mixed media, I enjoy exploring new possibilities and pushing materials in unexpected directions. It often leads to discoveries that help my work evolve while keeping me inspired and curious.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
I would spend the week learning a new medium. I find that stepping into unfamiliar materials or techniques keeps my practice alive and evolving. That sense of curiosity feeds me back into my work and helps me see my own process in a fresh way.
