Michelle Magnus Brown – Artist Spotlight

Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Aloha and hello! I’m Michelle Magnus Brown and I am an artist. I usually create through painting, and my mediums include acrylics, oils and mixed media.

What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
My most important goal as an artist is to follow my inner truth and direction and to continually develop and improve my skills.

What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
By strategically using shapes, colors, composition and textures I hope to connect with viewers on an intuitive and emotional level.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I do my best creative work in the morning and early afternoon hours, after a good night’s sleep and while my morning coffee is still circulating in my system.

What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
Allowing myself to experiment and try new things is the best part of my creative process. It also requires the most faith and confidence and the willingness to let go of control. Taking creative risks are vital for creating good artwork. Things don’t always work out the way I thought they would but then again, that’s the point.

If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
One day I hope to learn metal smithing so I can cut large shapes and weld them together. From there I would paint them and install them in landscaping. It would be cool for them to also have the capability to move with the wind and become more interactive with nature.
