Gini Crepps – Artist Spotlight

Please introduce yourself and briefly describe your art.
I am Gini Crepps. My medium is alcohol ink multimedia which I love! There is so much freedom using different elements to “paint” and “create”!

What led you to be an artist and to share your art in Auburn Old Town Gallery?
I have always loved color since I was a little girl…and loved creating arty stuff! Remember “paint by number” paintings? Those were heaven!  When I closed my gallery in 2019, I needed an outlet to show my work.  I was honored to be juried into Auburn Old Town Gallery…although sadly, my “paint by number” pieces didn’t make the cut!

Where are you originally from?
I am a California girl…born in San Francisco and raised in the East Bay Area where my dad worked at Concord Hospital – at that time in Quonset huts! Things have definitely changed over the years in that area!  I went to UC Davis, moving to Sacramento, and then to Rocklin.

What did you want to be when you were younger?
My first job interview was for a flight attendant – but I was too tall! I went on to get a teaching credential at Davis but never got into teaching – was hired as a silk screen artist, where I created designs for the Jazz Festival, Balloon Races, Car Races and just about any special event… Fast forward to becoming a graphic designer!

Tell us about a compliment that you’ve received that you’re most proud of.
At the recent Placer Arts Tour, a guest came up and stood in front of my display wall…he had not seen my work prior to that evening. He said he wanted the entire wall! The paintings had so much joy, energy and spirit…He ended up buying one of my favorite paintings that night, but his emotional response and connection was golden.

What’s one thing that has made you smile recently?
I smile every time a painting finds a new home…another connection has been made and for me, that’s what completes my creative “circle”.
