Gia Shukair – Artist Spotlight

Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hi, my name is Gia, and I create 2-dimensional textured mixed media pieces. I also have a clothing line based on my art.

What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
I have a huge appetite for many creative outlets, so my biggest challenge is juggling them all and giving time to each. (Art, Music, writing, yoga, cooking, and now travel!)

What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
I mostly focus on pleasing shapes and colors…although my titles reflect a deeper meaning sometimes. Abstract art is for individual and personal interpretation; so, they can see what they want to in a piece of art.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I’m an early bird. But lately, during winter, I’ve been enjoying sleeping in a little (until 7am).

What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
I use a lot of found objects and many different items in my art. So, I’m always experimenting. I love using rusty metal, stones, and lately have been vibing on velvet.

If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
Writing is my newest passion, and I find it is calling to me more loudly than many other passions right now! So, learning more on that front, and actually immerse myself in writing.
