Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hi! I’m Patty Pieropan Dong. My art mediums include oil, watercolor, acrylic, and block printing.
What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
The most challenging aspect for me is getting started on a studio piece. Inspiration flows better with plein air; when the day and a certain landscape/townscape beckon to me in morning or afternoon light.
What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
I hope viewers find a sense of joy in my color interpretations… a sense of viewing a familiar place in a new way. In terms of my still life subjects, a sense of vitality in everyday objects we encounter: chairs, kayaks, old cars, or household objects.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I am an early bird, especially in the summer months!
What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
I am certainly open to experimentation. Particularly when I have left home without supplies that I thought I needed. On occasion I have used sticks instead of paint brushes and magazines as pallets.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
My new passion is playing the ukulele! I would love to spend more time improving those skills.
