Denny Grossman has always had an affinity to forests and trees, and has been making objects out of wood for over 50 years. An ecologist and conservation scientist, Denny’s life has been dedicated to understanding and helping to protect our natural world. Recently retired from his ‘day job’, Denny has more time to explore and share the utility and beauty of wooden bowls, platters and other household objects at his Fawn Hill Woodworks studio in the Auburn foothills.
As an ecologist, Denny appreciates the opportunity to create practical utilitarian objects by recycling local trees which also reduces what goes to the landfill or burn pile. His woodworking process often starts with green wood and works through all of the steps to a dried and cured final wooden product. While making food safe bowls and platters on the lathe is his favorite woodworking activity, he also makes a wide variety of other practical and decorative wooden items for everyday household use.
Denny’s greatest satisfaction is knowing that heirloom creations from Fawn Hill Woodworks will be well appreciated and handed down for many years, as properly cared for wooden items remain beautiful and functional for a very long time.
