Carol Clark – Artist Spotlight

Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hi! I’m Carol Clark. I’m a fused glass artist. What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
Oh, there are so many challenges! One of my favorites, after envisioning a new project, is figuring out how to do it from a technical standpoint. Once that’s established, I can unleash my creativity.

What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
The highest honor is when someone looks at my work and resonates with it because of the color or shape, because it evokes a memory, or because it creates the desire to learn how to make fused glass art.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Hmmm… I’m probably an afternooner. That’s when I’m the most productive.

What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
Experimentation is my middle name. I see design possibilities for fused glass art projects everywhere — from the way the light hits a fallen Fall leaf, to the precision of a hummingbird sipping from a flower to the jagged peaks of the Grand Tetons. It seems that everything can be translated into glass, with a little experimentation.

If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
I’m retired, so I’m lucky that my regular life is all about having the freedom to learn new things. At this point, my focus is on fused glass, although I promised my camera equipment to take it out more often this year, and learn more about astrophotography.
