Marsha Toms is a fused glass artist based in Roseville, California. She has been creating unique fused glass pieces in her home studio since 1999. She took a beginner’s class at the Learning Exchange in 1999 and was hooked. It started out as a hobby for Marsha, but she really got serious with her glass art when she retired in 2021.
Marsha has taken numerous classes around the country and online with nationally and internationally known glass artists. She is then able to take what she learns and put her own spin on it. She has also recently started to weld some of her own custom stands for her art.
Marsha’s work usually begins with sheets of glass she hand cuts and layers together. She may then add glass powder, frit or stringers to create different effects. The glass then goes into the kiln for several hours and is slowly fired to around 1475 degrees, and then slowly cooled to prevent the fragile glass from breaking. Some of Marsha’s pieces are fired 4 or 5 times in the kiln. For her sculptural pieces, Marsha creates her own molds to “bend” the glass over creating one of a kind pieces. Marsha enjoys creating both functional and sculptural pieces and has won numerous awards with her glass art.
With over 25 years of experience in glass, Marsha continues to take classes and experiment with new techniques.
