Please introduce yourself and your art medium.
Hello, my name is Tim Turney, and I am furniture maker/wood turner.
What is the most challenging aspect of being an artist?
For me, the most challenging part of creating wood works is the precision involved. I come from a manufacturing background in precision sheet metal. The machinery used in that vocation is very precise. Woodworking equipment…not so much. But, with a bit of attention to setups and detail, good things come of the efforts.
What do you hope viewers take away from your artwork?
I would like them to be appreciative of the design and amazed at how it was done. I’ve heard that people wonder, “How did he do that?” That’s fun.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Neither… I get up when I’m rested and go to bed when I’m tired. Most of my work is done in the late afternoon.
What role does experimentation play in your creative process?
Nearly every project incorporates a technique that is new to me. I rarely make the same thing twice. Experimentation is critical to my enjoyment of the processes.
If you could take a week off from your regular life to immerse yourself in learning something new, what would it be?
How to eat healthier! π
