Huge Honors for Sandy Delehanty!

Our own, Sandy Delehanty’s painting,”Notre Dame”, has been accepted into the 151st Annual International Exhibition of the American Watercolor Society in New York City.  The exhibition is at the historic Salmagundi Club, 47 Fifth Avenue, New York City.  It has been Sandy’s goal for more than twenty years to be accepted into this juried competition since it is the most competitive and highly respected watercolor competition in the world.

Untitled, Fri Jan 27, 2017, 8:07:12 AM, 8C, 9000x10554, (0+555), 150%, Repro 2.2 v2, 1/30 s, R30.8, G3.9, B12.5

“Visiting Paris in the summer of 2016 I did some sketches and took photos for paintings I would create when I returned home.  Thousands of artists have probably painted the Notre Dame so I wanted to paint this iconic building from a different point of view and use a unique palette and painting technique.  To get my source photo to work from, I walked along beside the Notre Dame holding my cell phone above my head and rotating it at different angles, not knowing what I would find in the resulting photos.  I particularly liked this angle.  I then created the painting with its unusual palette using a technique that involves pouring baths of liquid watercolor over the paper and using frisket to protect shapes.  I lost track of the number of layers of paint I bathed the paper with at somewhere around 25.  The creative process was great fun and I am so honored to have the painting chosen for this prestigious exhibition.”
Also, Sandy’s painting of a cow she met in a field in Northern France was awarded “Best of Show” in the “Animal House, It’s A Zoo Out There 13th Annual Animal Themed Exhibition” at the Sacramento Fine Art Center.  The painting, titled “Mademoiselle Moo” was also painted using the Poured Watercolor Technique.  The exhibition dates are January 3 – 28, 2018 and the Reception is January 13, from 5:30 – 8:30.
