Michelle Magnus Brown is an award-winning painter whose work has a graphic, illustrative flair with an unmistakable signature-style of rich, vibrant colors. An avid gardener and outdoor enthusiast, Michelle’s muse is Nature. Creating work that communicates the beauty, harmony and serenity that can be found in nature is a primary focus in Michelle’s paintings.
A sense of place has always played a dominant role in Michelle’s work. She was born in
California, grew up in Hawaii, went to art school in New Mexico, California and Oregon, and spent twenty-one years in Colorado. She’s also spent time exploring other areas abroad and in iconic western areas of the United States. A recipient of the Frances Si Foundation Art Scholarship, Michelle used her fine arts degree to forge a career in graphic design, a look that is easily felt in her work. Michelle also trained horses and competed in endurance racing, an avocation that took her to places like Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and South Dakota—iconic western places that left an indelible mark on her work.
Michelle lives with her husband in the Sierra Nevada foothills, an area that is decidedly
western. With its abundance of amazing natural beauty, from landscapes of oceans to
mountains to deserts to world-famous vineyards, life in this primarily Mediterranean
climate offers an overwhelming abundance of subjects to paint. And she has found that,
without really meaning to, she has come full circle.
