Fused Glass artist Carol Clark has explored her creativity throughout her life: in photography, stained glass, pottery and, most recently, fused glass. Carol discovered the art of fused glass in a Bullseye Glass class in Emeryville, CA in 2019. It was love at first sight. Since then, she has taken numerous in-person and online classes to develop her knowledge and experience in this beautiful medium. She has won numerous awards for her fused glass art.
Carol creates both decorative and functional fused glass art with different types of fusible glass: sheet, frit, stringer, dichroic, and more. Pieces are fired in a kiln up to 1480F for up to 24 hrs. If the final piece is a 3D shape, it will be slumped into a mold for several more hours in the kiln. Vases, candle holders, etc. that are draped over a mold, rather than slumped into one, require monitoring the kiln to decide when to turn off the heat in order to limit the stretch of the glass via heat and gravity.
Carol says, “What I enjoy about working with fused glass is figuring out both
the technical and creative aspects. As with all art, there are “rules”, some of which
can be broken once you understand how glass behaves in the kiln. There are so
many things to learn that this art form will keep me engaged for many years to
come.”
