Ann Ranlett

Newcastle resident Ann Ranlett, MSA is an award-winning artist who specializes in pet, animal & nature subjects rendered in scratchboard. Ann’s scratchboard drawings are finely detailed and realistic. She accepts commissions for pet & animal portraits and nature illustrations. Ann is also a photographer – looking for unique perspectives of the natural world and taking the majority of her own photos for drawing reference.

A graduate of CSU, Sacramento, with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Ann is a Master member (MSA) of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists (ISSA), a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists (SAA), and a Signature Member of American Women Artists (AWA). At Open Studio and other art-related events (including most Gallery events), she  demonstrates her scratchboard techniques and discusses her work. Ann also teaches scratchboard workshops and has been a featured presenter at many of the annual ISSA gatherings.

Ann says, “Scratchboard is not very well known, but it’s a wonderful medium which allows for an incredible level of detail. It’s that detail that I love. As a bio-nerd & detail freak, scratchboard is the perfect medium for creating the style of art that makes my science brain happy.”
