Penryn artist Sandy Delehanty has been drawing and painting since childhood. She remembers sitting on a rock by Kelsey Creek painting the water and rocks with a little tin box of watercolors while her grandpa was fly fishing, when she was five or six years old. To this day her favorite medium is watercolors and she loves to paint nature. Sandy graduated from California State University at Chico with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and completed graduate studies for a Secondary Teaching Degree. She has added to her education by taking painting workshops over the years with professional artists whose work and expertise she admires.
Sandy’s paintings have been juried into many national and international exhibitions earning awards and Signature Status in the following organizations: Americas Watercolor Society (AWS), Watercolor West (WW) and the California Watercolor Association (CWA). American Women Artists awarded her Master Signature Artist the top honor of this national organization. Sandy served on the Board of Directors of American Women Artists for a term of six years.
Her paintings have been exhibited in seven art museums around the US, and numerous solo and group shows in galleries in California, Colorado, and the Salmagundi Club in New York City. But Auburn Old Town Gallery is her “local” gallery, and she says “being part of the wonderful family of artists that owns this gallery brings her great joy”.
Sandy recently retired from teaching adult watercolor classes in California and Hawaii. She also taught travel sketching in Bali, South Africa, France, Italy, Greece, Belgium and Spain. She continues to travel and sketch in watercolor journals in Europe and the US.
In her gallery space here at Auburn Old Town Gallery Sandy exhibits original watercolor paintings, many created using her signature “pouring technique”. Along with the original paintings she is showing prints from her “Silly Giraffe” series and cute little framed prints made from pages in her travel journals. Cards, created from her paintings are available as blank note cards or greeting cards, packaged individually or in assortments of five or ten per box.
